In recognition of the dedication and excellence of teachers of AP Italian, the Observatory of the Italian Language, as part of its promotional and motivational activities, announces the establishment of 10 grants for participation in a preparatory training course for teaching the language within the AP Italian Program.

“ AP TEACHER 2012”
In recognition of the dedication and excellence of teachers of AP Italian, the Observatory of the Italian Language, as part of its promotional and motivational activities, announces the establishment of 10 grants for participation in a preparatory training course for teaching the language within the AP Italian Program.


Article 1
Applicants and Requirements

1. Applications may be presented by teachers of Italian working in American High Schools, who are currently teaching, or are interested in teaching in the coming school years, AP Italian.
2. The applicants must, in the manner indicated in Art. 3 below, provide proof of their ability:
a) to plan and teach AP courses;
b) to motivate students studying Italian at the AP level;
c) to excel in teaching Italian.


Article 2
Financial coverage

1. The grants shall cover all expenses related to participation at the AP Teacher Preparation Course to be held at Middlebury College from July 2nd through July 13th, 2012 .
2. Each individual grant totals $2,600 and is intended to cover registration costs, course attendance and lodging at Middlebury College.


Article 3
Application
1. High School teachers currently teaching AP Italian may apply.
2. High School teachers interested in teaching AP Italian in the coming school years may also apply, as long as they can present the documentation requested herein.
3. Application is made by completing the proper form, attached hereto, to be sent via email to italiansimb@gmail.com by April 13th, 2012, 24:00hrs Eastern Standard Time (i.e., midnight).

4. The following documentation must be included with the application:
a. Declaration by the candidate demonstrating that they meet the requirements set forth under Art. 1, paragraph 2, specifically indicating how they are, or plan to be, AP Italian teachers and what kind of initiatives they have implemented, or want to implement, or organize, so as to begin or increase student participation in AP Italian courses and exams at their school;
b. curriculum vitae ac studiorum;
c. detailed AP Italian course syllabus with targets, description of the subject matter to be discussed, course materials and an accurate description of the evaluation criteria;
d. letter of recommendation written by one of the following: the Principal, the Foreign Language Coordinator, or a World Languages Supervisor.

5. Applications received after the date specified in Article 3, paragraph 1, and/or without the documentation specified in Article 3, paragraph 2, will not be accepted.
6. The Commission reserves the right to examine any late applications in the event that the number of grants available has not been exhausted.


Article 4
Project Evaluation

1. Evaluation of the applications is entrusted to an internal Commission of the Observatory.
2. The decision regarding assignment of the grants is up to the discretion of the Commission and is final.
3. "AP Teacher 2012” competition winners will be contacted personally, via email by May 11th, 2012. Results will also be published in the www.usspeaksitalian.org website.
